Five Little Monkeys Jumping On The Bed Lesson
This lesson is quite possibly too loud for everyone to enjoy inside of the classroom :)

Standard: K-2 The student will demonstrate through the mathematical processes an emerging sense of quality and numeral relationships, sets, and place values.

Indicator: K-2.4 Represent simple joining and separating situations through 10.

Materials:
Five Little Monkeys Jumping On The Bed

Math Journals

Procedures:
1. To begin the lesson, the teacher will read Five Little Monkeys Jumping On The Bed. When the book is over, the teacher will have all the students sing Five Little Monkeys.
2. After singing the story, the teacher will pick 10 "monkeys." They will be told that they are monkeys jumping on a bed (encourage jumping). The teacher will pick a number of monkeys to fall off. Example- 10 little monkeys jumping on the bed, 2 bell off and bumped their heads! The teacher will pick 2 monkeys to fall and the class will create the math sentence. This whole process will continue until everyone has had a chance to be a monkey.
3. The concluding activity would be for the students to draw one a math sentence they saw. A review would be held before it was time for students to draw the problem.
